Gas diffusion layer (GDL) plays distributes fuel gases to the membrane electrode array (MEA) of the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), and transports product water and electrons. During the operation of PEMFC, the membrane required maintaining the wetting state for high proton conductivity and the water flooding on the catalyst layer (CL) and GDL has prevented the supply of reactants (H2 and O2). Recently, minimizing mass transport loss through water management by achieving alternatively patterned hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces was reported. In this study, patterned polydopamine (PDA) functionalization was carried out to accomplish hydrophilicity on hydrophobic GDB. As a result, the patterned hydrophilic surface was successfully formed. |
