Peapod-like Arrangement of Multicompositional Noble Metal Nanoparticles within Hollow Silica Nanotubes Encapsulation |

The assembly of nanoparticle within hollow nanoshells provides access into advanced nanohybrids with unique and colligative properties. In this work, an effective solution-based synthetic approach for peapod-shaped Au nanoparticle assembly encapsulated within hollow silica nanotubes (pp multi Au@SiO2 NTs) is reported. Firstly, one-dimensional [multiple Au nanodot] core–[silica] shell nanowires (multi-Au@SiO2 NWs) are synthesized using reverse microemulsion techniques. A subsequent thermal treatment of multi-Au@SiO2 NWs in aqueous polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) solution results in the formation of pp multi-Au@SiO2 NTs. Further overgrowth of secondary materials (i.e., Pt) on the Au nanoparticles in pp multi-Au@SiO2 NTs results in the generation of [Au] core-[Pt] shell (Au/Pt) nanoparticle assemblies surrounded by silica nanotubes (pp multi-Au/Pt@SiO2 NTs). The resulted nanoparticles can be efficient and selective nanoreactors for targeted applications. |
