제목 | Light and Reactive Oxygen Species for a Minimally Invasive Biomedical Platform |
초록 | Photodynamic therapy (PDT)uses photosensitizers (PS) and light energy. PS irradiated light with thespecific wavelength can generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). PS surround bloodstream,accumulated target diseased cells, and induce cell death due to oxidative stressunder laser irradiation. PDT is a minimally invasive approach because of thechemical and physical properties of ROS. Having extraordinary reactivity and a lifetimeof 3.5µs in aqueous solution, ROS can rapidly attack surroundingcells and disappear without trace amounts. PDT is mainly approachedfor cancer therapy, but PDT mechanism can be applicated to stimulate, damage,and destroy all living organisms, such as cells, bacteria, and virus. Therefore,PDT can be applied for various diseases as possible as cancer. |
