제목 | Fabrication of Flexible Gd2O2S:Tb Scintillator Screens for X-ray Imaging Detectors Using Sedimentation Process |
초록 | X-ray imaging is most widely used technique for non-invasive medical diagnosis and security purpose. Over the last several decades analog x-ray film detectors have been used. However, these conventional x-ray film detectors are being rapidly substituted by digital x-ray detectors. The digital x-ray detectors have many technical benefits such as no film development process, high resolution, real-time image observation, easy image storage and simple file transfer. As an x-ray converter, terbium doped gadolinium oxy-sulfide (Gd2O2S:Tb) is used in digital radiography detectors. The flexible scintillator screens are very much important for next generation DR detectors with good imaging performance and high efficiency. For this purpose, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is used as substrate due to its high flexibility and good formality. We have fabricated terbium doped gadolinium oxy-sulfide (Gd2O2S:Tb) scintillator screens with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as a binder on the PET substrate by using a simple sedimentation process. The developed screens were smooth, compact without voids and highly dense. In order to investigate the imaging performance of fabricated screens, we placed screens onto photodiode array detector. The imaging performance of scintillator screens were evaluated in terms of spatial resolution, modulation transfer function (MTF) and sensitivity to x-rays. And results were compared with commercial scintillator screens. The MTF performance of developed screen was almost same as commercial screen with equivalent thickness. For thinner screen, the MTF performance was better than commercial screen. As thickness of screen is increased, the spatial frequency is decreased. But sensitivity of our samples was poor in comparison to commercial screen. This process is easy, low cost and can be used for large area detector fabrication. To enhance the imaging performance and high sensitivity, we are designing and fabricating the flexible pixelated scintillator screens. |
