Recently, visible-light-responsive photocatalysts have been received much attention for environmental pollutant treatment. In our study, Pd decorated BiVO4 photocatalyst synthesized by photodecomposition method. Under visible light illumination, the Pd/BiVO4 exhibited excellent photoactivity for sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) decomposition. The synthetic sample with 3% w/w of Pd content possessed the highest photocatalytic performance in all as-prepared catalysts. The SMZ molecules were substantially eliminated (99.8%) within 210 min, and degradation efficiency was considerably better than bare BiVO4 (60%) under identical conditions. Simultaneously, 90% of TOC removal was achieved within 210 min, implying that the high mineralization was achived. Furthermore, the well-dispersed Pd nanoparticles were found to suppress photogenerated charge carriers and may also improve the capacity of BiVO4 to harvest visible light photons due to a local surface plasmon resonance effect. |
