Isovalent Ti -site Substitution for Enhanced Quality Factor of MgTiO3 Based Ceramics |

Microwave dielectric properties of MgTi1-x(Mn1/3Nb2/3)xO3(0≤x≤0.05), MgTi0.995 (Mn1/3Nb2/3)0.005O3(MTMN),(MgTi0.995(Mn1/3Ta2/3)0.005O3(MTMT),(MgTi0.995(Mn1/3Sb2/3)0.005O3 (MTMS)ceramics were investigated at 7~9 GHz. For the specimens sintered at 1400oC for 4h, a single phase with ilmenite structure was observed through the entire range of compositions. MgTi0.995(Mn1/3Nb2/3)0.005O3 showed the highest Qf value of 212,300GHz due to high binding energy of Ti-site in MgTiO3 which were confirmed by XPS method . When x=0.005, it could more prevent the reduction of Ti4+ to Ti3+ than other compositions. Specimens substituted with Sb5+ showed higher Qf value than those of specimens with Nb5+ and/or Ta5+ due to the high degree of Ti-site covalency which is related with bond strength of ilmenite structure. K value was affected by theoretical dielectric polarizabilites of composition ions and TCF was affected by the average distortion of oxygen octahedral. Good microwave dielectric properties was obtained for MgTi0.995(Mn1/3Sb2/3)0.005O3 ; K = 18.05 , Qf = 312,300GHz, TCF = -31.62ppm/˚C |
