Monolith, form-stable thermal energy storage and management devices have gained attention due to their promising application in sustainable energy management. Phase changing materials (PCM) have been vastly used as the energy storage materials with the necessary modifications. Herein, we report a novel form stable AAIPN@PEG/HS (APH) hydrogel with polyethylene glycol/ hydrated salt eutectic composite and high PCM loading. The APH was prepared by incorporating molten PEG and hydrated salt in alginate and acrylic acid solution followed by in-situ polymerization to polyacrylic acid forming Alg/PAA IPN. Its physicochemical properties and performance were characterized by FTIR, TGA, DSC, XRD, SEM, and infrared thermal camera. The formed Alg/PAA IPN matrix enclosed the eutectic PCM both in melt and crystallized state with no leakage even at high loading. The HS lowered the supercooling of the resultant PCM. A high energy density (ΔHm) of 131.9 J/g was achieved with long recyclability. |
