A series of thermosensitive copolymer hydrogels, hyaluronic acid-g-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(AHA-g-PNIPAAm) and hyaluronic acid-g-elastin-like polymer(AHA-g-ELP), were synthesized by coupling carboxylic end-capped polymer(PNIPAAm-COOH or ELP) to AHA through amide bond linkages. Chemical properties and thermosensitivity, such as rheological behavior, phase transition kinetics, and morphologies were characterized in detail. The structure of PNIPAAm, ELP, AHA and AHA-g-PNIPAAm(or ELP) copolymers was determined by 1H NMR and 13C NMR. Reversible sol-to-gel phase transitions of AHA-g-PNIPAAm and AHA-g-ELP with different weight ratios of PNIPAAm(ELP) were measured by transmittance of visible right and rheological analysis. Results from SEM observations confirm different morphologies of AHA-g-PNIPAAm and AHA-g-ELP and different weight ratios of PNIPAAm(ELP) after freeze-drying. The AHA graft copolymers using PNIPAAm and ELP can open novel applications of tissue engineering and drug delivery. |
