제목 Biodiesel production from low-grade feedstock using hybrid catalysts
초록 Biodiesel is alkyl ester made from renewable feedstocks such as animal fat wastes, vegetable oil, and algae. Besides, biodiesel composition and properties are comparable to that of petro-diesel fuel. Biodiesel is produced from its feedstock through a transesterification reaction that includes the exchanging of glycerides (the main component of feedstock) organic group with the organic group of an alcohol to produce biodiesel and glycerol as a co-product. However, the feedstock cost can comprise more than 75% of the overall biodiesel cost, and then economic issues are the main limitations of biodiesel production. This research focused on the use of alternative feedstock and production processes. The production of fatty acid esters from low-grade feedstock becomes an interesting alternative route since it is possible to reduce the cost of the process. The present work aimed to produce methyl esters from low-grade feedstock such as food waste oil, using a commercial soluble lipase (Lipozyme 435) and chemical catalysts.
