제목 Improvement in friction by laser surface texturing on cast iron
초록 This work aims to study and understand the influence of the surface topography on wear of Cast Steel used for diesel or gasoline internal combustion engine. A Cast Steel was tested with different surface topographies. These were polished surfaces, grinded and laser surface textured specimen.
Rotating friction tests using a steel ball against a flat sample was carried out. Two types of the commercial synthetic oil for internal combustion engine were used as the lubricant. The coefficient of friction was measured during the tests. The wear rate of all samples from the steel ball was also measured at the end of the test.
The influence of the surface topography on the laser surface texturing and on the wear behavior of cast steel was established. Particularly, the friction coefficient of laser surface textured samples was reduced up to 20%.
