제목 | Algal-bacterial process for simultaneous treatment of toxic thiocyanate and maximized lipids production in combined photoautotrophic/photoheterotrophic modes |
초록 | Herein, we report a cooperative algal-bacterial system that is able to efficiently degrade thiocyanate (SCN-), a toxic contaminant, and simultaneously demonstrate high lipid productivity. This consortium of mixed bacteria and microalgae (Chlorella protothecoides and Ettlia sp.) was cultivated in both photoautotrophic and photoheterotrophic modes. SCN- hydrolysis to ammonium (NH4+-N) nitrogen and subsequent nitrification occurred by the initially added activated sludge under a lithoautotrophic conditions. The oxidized forms of nitrogen, nitrite (NO2--N) and nitrate (NO3--N), were then assimilated and removed by the microalgal cells when light was supplied. These algal-bacterial culture succeeded to significantly increase the lipid productivity under photoheterotrophic condition, resulting in up to 28.7- and 17.3-fold higher productivities for C. protothecoides- and Ettlia sp.-inoculated cultures, respectively, than those grown photoautotrophically.
