In recent years, significant progress has been made in improving the performance of anion exchange materials (AEMs), which are considered one of the promising electrolytes for anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs). Despite substantial progress of AEMs performance, the poor durability of AEMs by various reactive oxygen species are still major concern in AEMFC. To overcome durability of AEMs, especially high stability of the cationic groups are required. Thus, in this study, we introduced radical scavenging extender on the cationic group. Herein, poly(phenylene oxide) containing a quaternary ammonium group were synthesized by in-situ quaternization using N,N,2,2,6,6-Hexamethylpiperidin-4-amine and accorded a nitroxide functionality via oxidation, successively. A nitroxide radical site were present in poly(phenylene oxide) based ionomer, which determined by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. |
