Acer tegmentosum Maxim, generally known as Manchurian striped maple, has been used as traditional medicine for the treatment of liver diseases and traumatic bleedings. Recently, A. tegmentosum has been known to possess various therapeutic effects, including hepatoprotection, neuroprotection, and antidepressant activity. In addition, therapeutically active ingredients and their pharmacological activities has drawn notable attention to the functional foods containing A. tegmentosum–derived products. However, the information on its cosmeceutical applications has been limited. In this study, the extract of A. tegmentosum effectively inhibited tyrosinase activity in a dose-dependent manner, and decreased melanin content in B16F10 cells. Moreover, the extract down-regulated TRP-2 and MITF expression in B16F10 cells stimulated by α-MSH. The anti-aging effects of Acer tegmentosum Maxim will be presented in this study. |
