Imogolite is a single-walled nanotube which is composed of six membered aluminum hydroxide rings having identical structure with layer of gibbsite. To substitute inner elements to carbon, tetra ethyl orthocarbonate(TEOC) is used instead of TEOS. The carbon substituted imogolite(Al-C) is characterized by wide angle XRD, IR, SAXS, TEM and simulation. IR spectrum show C-O-Al stretching band assigned at 1022cm-1 increase as TEOC concentration rise indicating gibbsite unit is formed. No patterns at small angle in XRD mean Al-C nanotubes do not make close-packed state. The diameter of Al-C nanotube confirmed by TEM images is two times longer than Al-Si whereas its length is decreasing compared with imogolite. The shape distribution of Al-Si and Al-C nanotube is distinct supported by SAXS. In addition, molecular dynamic simulation is used to expect structure of Al-C nanotube. Al-C nanotube can be the most stable when gibbsite units are 16 in having armchair structure and its diameter is 4㎚. |
