Solar desalination system with pH-polarized anolyte/catholyte by bipolar membranes |
초록 |
An electrocatalytic desalination system including TiO2 anode and Bi-foam cathode have shown its great potential of wastewater treatment and CO2 reduction to formate (carbon capture and storage). However, the ion exchange membranes (IEMs) that were inserted to transport anions and cations for desalination brought about pH polarization of anolyte and catholyte toward increasing the reactor cell voltage. Bipolar membranes next to the anolyte and catholyte could buffer the unbalanced ion transport of IEMs by water dissociation and maintain the pH of electrolyte. 2-cell experiments were conducted and evaluated principally with various initial pH conditions of anolyte and catholyte. |
