제목 | Piezocatalytic Cancer Therapy Using Ultrasound-Activatable Piezoelectric Au-ZnO Nanorods |
초록 | Piezocatalytic cancer therapy is an effective therapeutic modality, in which reactive oxygen species (ROS) can be generated via catalytic reactions under ultrasound (US). Herein, Au-zinc oxide nanorods (Au@P-ZnO NRs) were developed for highly efficient cancer treatment. Upon US irradiation, ZnO NRs induce piezoelectric polarization and dynamic built-in electric field. In addition, Au NPs functioned as Fenton-like catalysts to facilitate the generation of ROS. To maximize the anticancer effects, a pro-oxidant drug, piperlongumine (PL), was loaded into Au@P-ZnO NRs. PL-loaded Au@P-ZnO NRs not only significantly amplified intracellular ROS but also efficiently triggered cancer-specific cytotoxicity in breast cancer cells under US. Importantly, PL-Au@P-ZnO NRs with US considerably suppressed the tumor growth of mice without any observable systemic toxicity. In conclusion, PL-Au@P-ZnO NRs are promising piezocatalytic agents for cancer-selective combined chemo-piezocatalytic therapy. |
