제목 Brush Polymers Precisely Constructed by Combination of Living Anionic Polymerization and Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization: Access to Photonic Crystals
초록 Brush polymers, in which polymeric grafts are densely attached, are of significance for their cylindrical conformation. Recently, the ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of macromonomers using Grubbs catalyst has proven to be the most effective method to yield brush polymers with high molecular weight (MW). However, the MW precision by ROMP has been challenging due to low-quality synthesis of macromonomers. To overcome this limitation, we attempted the combination of living anionic polymerization and ROMP to construct well-defined brush polymers. The anionic polymerization using norbornenyl-functionalized initiators and terminators yielded norbornenyl-end-capped macromonomers with predictable MW, narrow dispersity and quantitative end-functionality. Such high-quality macromonomers were converted to be well-defined brush polymers by ROMP. The brush block copolymers obtained by sequential ROMP were utilized for the fabrication of highly ordered photonic crystals.
