Utilizing microalgae for biodiesel due to global warming research is being done globally. Microalgae Nannochloropsis oculata (N. oculata) typically used in the research of bio-diesel due to its high lipid content. Moreover, N. oculata contains high pigment content, such as chlorophyll, β-carotene and xanthophyll. The N. oculata cells in mid-log phase were exposed to UV-B (15 Watt, 254 nm) for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 min. The resulting colonies were isolated and further cultured in liquid f/2 medium. After a few weeks after cultivation, cell growth, dry cell weight, protein, chlorophyll, carotenoid and lipid content were measured. Screening of several mutants of high content of valuable compound is in progress. |
