To developreflection color tunable cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) paints, chiral andphotoisomerizable monomers were newly synthesized and then mixed with RM257,LC242, and CQ initiator. The optimized CLC mixture can be planarly aligned byshear coating. The helical pitch of the formed helical structure issubsequently controlled by photoisomerization of a cyanostilbene monomer underUV irradiation. The CLC paint with a desirable reflection color ispolymer-stabilized by blue light of 470 nm. The cured CLC paint exhibitsenhanced thermal, chemical, and mechanical stabilities.
