Studies on carboxylic acid derivatives containing alkyl tetraphosphate moiety as a anti wear agent |

Alkane diacid derivatives derived from bio-mass were easily synthesized using trithiophosphate and tetrathiophosphate to replace petroleum-derived compounds. Using a 4-ball wear scar test, we investigated the tendency of abrasion performance according to the change of diacid, trithiophosphate and tetrathiophosphate of synthesized antiwear agent and compared results with those for zinc dialkyl-dithiophosphorus, which is a commercially available antiwear agent. We using measured wear scar diameter to compare the abrasion performance of the synthesized dicarboxylic acid derivatives. The zinc dialkyl-dithiophosphorus used as the comparative group was 0.56 mm at 0.5% addition, while 0.48 mm was synthesized. The abrasion resistance did not increase even when the concentration of the synthesized material increased to more than 0.5%. As a result of increasing the carbon length of dicarboxylic acid from 4 to 11, wear scar diameter was found to improve slightly from 0.50 to 0.48 mm. |
