제목 Colloidal Properties of Graphene Oxide Aqueous Dispersion System
초록 Liquid crystalline processing of carbon nanotubes as well as mesophase pitch, has been employed for highly oriented carbon fiber production. Discotic liquid crystals of graphitic hydrocarbons are promising building blocks for advanced electronics and optoelectronics. Here we present graphene oxide liquid crystal as a new class of carbon based liquid crystal. Aqueous dispersion of fully exfoliated graphene oxide sheets produced from natural graphite demonstrates nematic liquid crystals. Complete nematic transition occurred at a routinely attainable concentration of ~0.7 wt%. The electrostatic repulsion from surface functional groups along with the ultralarge anisotropy of graphene oxide sheets, dominates the phase behavior.
