Electrochemical methods and systems play many key roles in a wide range of fundamental sciences and industrial applications such as nano & bio sensors, energy conversion & storage systems, and environmental sectors. Among various electrochemical technologies, the electrochemical energy conversion process can be easily coupled with an intermittent renewable energy, offer high system efficiency with mature commercial scale-up possibility and become carbon neutral (zero CO2 pathway). In particular, a number of innovative electrochemical systems based on solid polymer membrane are under development to realize this promising potential. Some of the examples are green hydrogen production using water electrolysis cell and green ammonia synthesis from water and air (N2) as the only feedstock. In this talk, the presentation will provide and discuss the merits of the electrochemical energy conversion system being considered to produce green hydrogen and ammonia. |
