제목 Obesity and obesity-related diabetes treatment using small intestine targetable photodynamic therapy
초록 Small intestine cells in obese patients releasespecific inhibitory polypeptide, causing plasma insulin reduction compared tonormal individuals. To normalize plasma insulin level, surgery is performed.But it causes severe side effects like thrombosis or perforation. So, wedesigned unsaturated fatty acid-hydrophilic polymer-photosensitizer (UHP).Fatty acid binds to specific small intestine cells, and the photosensitizerinduces cell apoptosis by photodynamic therapy without invasive surgery. The targetingeffect of fatty acid moiety was observed through in vitro and ex vivoexperiments. In a high-fat diet mouse model experiment, effective body and fatweight reduction was observed in the UHP oral administration group with laserirradiation, also confirmed the decrease of plasma inhibitory polypeptide andthe increase of insulin. The intestinal cell targeting PDT can be a newapproach to obese and obesity-related diabetes treatments.
