Fabrication of Hybrid Toroidal ZnO Nanostructures by One-step Complementary Block Copolymer Self-Assembly and Sol-gel Process |

Recently, unconventional nanostructures with eccentric configuration and geometry different from traditional low-dimensional analogue nanostructures have been reported. Especially, ring-shaped or donut-like toroidal nanostructures are examples of extraordinary systems that have attracted increasing interest due to their unique properties. Herein, we demonstrate an extremely easy and versatile method to fabricate toroidal ZnO nanostructures. 2D arrays of ZnO nanorings or those decorated with Au nanoparticles were prepared using polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P4VP) inverse micelles and inorganic precursors via spin-coating method. The size and shape of the resulting ZnO nanoring architectures were manipulated by controlling several parameters in mixing protocols. We investigate into the mechanism of morphological evolution and potential functions of thus obtained hybrid toroidal ZnO nanostructures. |
