Kenaf is one of non-wood fibers that had been alternative of wood fiber for producing paper and paperboard. Kenaf bast fiber provides excellent strength-related properties with kraft pulping process. Beside on pulping process, bleaching stage also important step in pulp production. Chlorine dioxide and hydrogen peroxide are highly selective, they react rapidly with lignin but has small effect to cellulose. Despite of that due to environmental effect, most of researchers proposed the replacement of chlorine with Totally Chlorine Free (TCF) bleaching chemical and the usage of hydrogen peroxide as a total or partial substitute for chlorine-based bleaching agents has increased. In hydrogen peroxide bleaching process, it must have considerable conditions such as temperature, retention time, and chemical charge, etc. (Zeinaly, et al., 2013) |
