제목 Highly reflective 1D photonic crystal sensors using photo-crosslinked polymer–titania hybrid layers for colorimetric visualization of benzene, toluene, and xylene
초록 In this study, we propose a facile method for fabricating highly reflective one-dimensional photonic crystals (1D PC) sensors, which exhibit a large refractive index difference (Δn) between the high-refractive index layers (HRILs) and low-refractive index layers (LRILs) when immersed in the liquid analyte. A photo-crosslinked copolymer–titania hybrid as the HRIL (Ti70) and a photo-crosslinked polystyrene-based LRIL (P(St-co-BPA)) were synthesized and used to fabricate the 1D PC sensor (Ti70/P(St-co-BPA) 4N). Its sensing performance was verified in liquid benzene, toluene, and xylene (BTX). Initially, Ti70/P(St-co-BPA) 4N reflected a blue color (R = 55%), which immediately changed upon immersion in BTX into three different colors: red in benzene (R = 48%), orange in toluene (R = 41%), and yellow–green in xylene (R = 43%) within 1.0 s. In addition, the reversibility and recyclability of the 1D PC sensor were verified through repeated swelling and de-swelling cycles.
