Effect of Ozone Treatment on Oxidative Stabilization Behavior of Petroleum Pitch |

In this study, pitch derived-activated carbons (AC) were prepared using ozone stabilization in order to enhance their specific surface area and total pore volume. The chemical states of carbon and oxygen were analyzed using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The crystal structural characteristics of the AC were observed by X-ray diffraction. The textural properties of the AC were investigated by N2/77K adsorption isotherms. The butane activity (BA) was determined according to ASTM D5228. As a result, the specific surface area of the AC was determined to 2,000-2,700 m2/g. It was also observed that various pore size distributions were found to be dependent on the functions of the activation method and time. The BA of the AC increased with increasing specific surface area and total pore volume. The AC exhibit enhanced BA compared to commercial AC with the high performance of BA due to its pore structure having a high specific surface area. |
