제목 | TEMPO-mediated HMF electrochemical conversion to FDCA using Ni(OH)2/Ni foam |
초록 | 2, 5-Furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is a near-market monomer considered as a valuable biomass-derived replacement for petroleum-derived terephthalic acid in the synthesis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). FDCA can be derived from 5-hydroxymethylfuran (HMF) oxidation, a versatile biomass intermediate obtained from the dehydration of hexoses. In this study, Ni(OH)2 anodes were fabricated by pulsed electroplating method on Ni foam to investigate the use of 2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) for electrochemical HMF oxidation to FDCA. The morphology and structure of the as synthesized Ni(OH)2/Ni foam electrodes were characterized by SEM, XRD and XPS. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV)s were conducted to analyze the HMF oxidation performance with or without TEMPO in the electrolyte. Chronoamperometry was further used to investigate the final production and intermediates during the HMF electrochemical oxidation by applying 0.7 V vs. RHE. |
