제목 Surface-initiated ring-opening polymerization of lactide on magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles and their effect on pH neutralization
초록 Even though biodegradable polymers, such as poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) and poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) are very useful in many biomedical applications, inflammation that was induced by an acidic microenvironment after polymer degradation has been pointed out as a major problem. Their weak mechanical properties are also another shortcoming. In this work, PLLA was grafted on surface of MgO nanoparticle via surface-initiated ring-opening polymerization. Surface-modified MgO nanoparticles were successfully synthesized and their effect on pH neutralization was confirmed. Moreover, tensile strength of nanocomposite consisted of surface-modified MgO nanoparticles and PLLA matrix was much higher than control PLLA matrix. Consequently, the nanocomposites are effective in improving pH neutralization as well as enhancing mechanical properties of PLLA matrix. Therefore, this nanocomposite can be applied in biodegradable stent and various biomedical devices.
