Role of residual capping ligands in chemoselective hydrogenation of acetophenone over polyvinyl alcohol-capped Pt/Al2O3 |
초록 |
Capping ligands play a pivotal role in synthesizing various metal nanocrystals with well-defined sizes and shapes. However, residual capping ligands have been conventionally believed to block the active sites leading to a decrease in catalytic performance. Here, the enhancing effects of residual capping ligands on catalytic performance are systemically investigated for polyvinyl alcohol-capped Pt/Al2O3. The coverage of capping ligands and exposed Pt sites are delicately controlled by changing thermal treatment temperature from 523 to 773 K. Consequentially, the partial removal of capping ligands improves both catalytic activity and chemoselectivity for the selective hydrogenation of acetophenone. It has been demonstrated that the synergistic effects of residual capping ligands are attributed to the selective exposal of highly active Pt defect sites by partial removal treatment and the modification of electronic structure by residual capping ligands. |
