Cancer is responsible for approximately 13% of all deaths. One of promising appoaches for effective cancer therapy is systemic chemotherapy using anticancer drugs, which are able to trigger apoptosis by activating key elements of the apoptosis program. Several lines of evidence suggest that many of well-known species (ROS) such as hydrogen peoxide, superoxide anion, but the central mechanisms are not known. Apoptosis is known to be inhibited by anrioxidants such as catalase, N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC), further supporting that ROS play an essential role in apoptosis. Cinnamaldehyde is a major component in cinnamon. Interestingly, a number of studies have shown that cinnamaldehyde and its analogues inhibit growth of various mediated mitochondrial permeability transition and caspase activation. Nanoscale drug carriers and polymer-drug conjugates have been the common approaches to maximize therapeutic efficacy of drugs and minimize their undersirable side effects by decreasing the dose. |
