Layer by Layer self-assembly (LbL) method is a very useful way to make a polymeric thin film by using electrostatic attraction. In this research, a polystyrene copolymer containing quaternary ammonium salt was prepared by copolymerization of styrene and vinylbenzyl chloride and quaternization of the resultant copolymer with trimethylamine. The copolymer was also modified by incorporating azide (-N3) moiety for crosslinking reaction. LbL method was used for the preparation of fuel cell film by using the azide modified cationic polystyrene copolymer (amPS) as a cationic polyelectrolyte and sulfonated poly(phenylene oxide) (sPPO) as an anionic polyelectrolyte, on the Nafion film. We used two types of Crosslink conditions, which are wet-crosslink and dry-crosslink. LbL film shows different result with crosslink conditions. Obtained film was characterized by SEM, H-NMR, IR, IEC, water uptake, proton conductivity, and methanol permeability. |
