Effect of surfactants on mechanical and wear and corrosion resistance properties of electrodeposited Ni-SiC-BN (h) composite coatings |

Ni-SiC-BN (h) ternary composite coatings were fabricated by pulse electrodeposition technique with different ration of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). Β-SiC and hexagonal BN nanosheets (each 10 g/L) were dispersed into the electrolyte prior to electrodeposition. Surface morphology, microstructure, and microhardness, of the composite coatings were evaluated by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Vickers microhardness test. Tribological properties of the composite coatings were performed under 3.5 wt.% salt water as a lubricanting condition and analyzed wear tracks and coefficient of friction. Corrosion resistant properties of the composite coatings were evaluated at 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution using linear sweep voltammetry and impedance technique. Although the composite coating prepared only in presence of SDS showed higher corrosion protection than others, the decreased Vickers microhardness and increased coefficient of friction was observed. On the other hand, increased Vickers microhardness was observed for coatings prepared by using CTAB. |
