High purity Hydrogen from biogas using A-site deficient perovskite materials |

Biogas can be used for synthetic gas (syngas) production in which CH4 and CO2 are catalytically separated and converted into high purity H2 and CO. This process is usually operated at 700–1000oC and close to the atmospheric pressure. However, there are some critical deactivation problems by the high temperature operating and carbon deposition from the carbon based biogases. Therefore, it is challenging to make this process more efficient by utilizing highly active and stable materials due to the endothermic property of the reaction at high operating temperature. Perovskite (ABO3) materials are a good alternative, which provides high thermal stability and doping flexibility. Here, we develop an A-site deficient perovskite materials with a combination of noble and transition metals, where these metals are highly active towards catalytic reaction and more resistant to coke formation. Tuning A-site deficient leads to the high concentration of oxygen vacancies, which are beneficial to enhance CO2 dissociation and remove the deposited carbon. The developed materials are to improve the syngas composition such as CO and H2 ratio, analyzed by the GC analysis. |
