We had synthesized poly(n-hexyl isocyanate) by living anionic polymerization with novel one directional initiator sodium benzanilide (Na-BA) at –98°C. Generally, poly(n-hexyl isocyanate)(PHIC) undergoes depolymerization due to the backbiting of the chain end (-NRH) into the carbonyl group. In order to improve the chain-end stability, living anionic chain end of PHIC was end-capped with methacryloyl chloride in the presence of a catalyst. It was first time that the yield of end-capping reaction was nearly 100%. When the chiral (s)-(-)acetoxylpropionyl chloride as a chiral end-capping agent was used, the polymer with chirality was obtained.
