Filp-flop nature of the amphiphilic polymer surfaces is very useful to impart ideal antifouling properties by converting hydrophobic surface to hydrophilic one when immersed in aqueous medium. However, there is no report related to the flip-flop nature of zwitterionic polymer, even though zwitterionic polymer is one of the widely used antifouling materials. In this research, amphiphilic copolymers composed of zwitterionic carboxybetaine monomers and hydrophobic trimethysiloxy groups were synthesized and the flip-flop nature of the polymer surfaces was characterized. As a result, drastic flip-flop nature was observed when the composition of the zwitterionic groups in the copolymer was around 70%. |
