Polymer composites with unique and remarkable property have been generated by compounding many kinds of fillers and polymers by using Twin Screw Extruder under the melt compounding process. To generate new property of material by compounding and to maximize its quality, the homogeneous dispersion of filler in the polymer matrix is one of the most important requirements. In this study, PS and fillers such as carbon black and calcium carbonate were compounded by many diverse screw configurations within the co-rotating twin screw extruder, and the degree of dispersion changing by various screw configuration was analyzed. By comparing various location changes by kneading blocks and conveying sections, the influence of kneading block towards the degree of dispersion was also analyzed. To measure the degree of dispersion, the transmitted light intensity of composite sample was detected with photodiode on an optical microscope(OM) as sub-micro scale. |
