Effects of ACFs modified by E-beam irradiation in hydrogen peroxide solution on NO gas detection |

The detection of NOx gas has recently become a critical issue since they are some of the most common air pollutants. Activated carbon fibers(ACFs) are favorable for adsorbing gases because they have a large specific surface area and microporous structure. It is well kwon that electron beam(E-beam) irradiation can cleave C-C and C-H bonds on polymer surfaces. There fore, it is expected that E-beam irradiation is a viable technology as surface treatment for improving porous structure of carbon materials. In this study, pitch-based ACFs are modified by E-beam irradiation in hydrogen peroxide solution to improve porous structure to detect NO gas. The sample treated with E-beam irradiation of 400 kGy has approximately resistive response of 4.5% and response time was reduced from 360 s to 210 s . This result shows that E-beam irradiation can be applied to improve porous structure of carbon materials for a gas sensor electrode material. |
