Chemically durable reinforced membranes for chlor-alkali process |
초록 |
Chlor-alkali (CA) process is a commercially useful process to produce valued chemicals such as chlorine, sodium hydroxide and hydrogen via saline water electrolysis. The membrane process is environmentally friendly and has low energy consumption when compared with mercury and diaphragm processes. The widely used membrane materials are PFSAs with high chemical resistance. But, even PFSAs are not free from chemical decomposition under harsh CA operation conditions. Their high cost and limited cation transport behavior are enough to provide motivation to develop membrane materials desirable for CA process. In this study, PFSA reinforced membranes employing porous PTFE films are prepared and their CA characteristics are evaluated. |
