Graphene has received enormous attention in the fields of composite materials; when incorporated appropriately, graphenes can dramatically enhance the electrical, physical, mechanical, and barrier properties of polymer composites at extremely low loadings. To achieve those unique properties, the key issue is to well disperse the graphene and subsequently to utilize as reinforcement. However, due to the absence of the specific interfacial interaction, the mechanical properties are often drastically reduced. As a result, the preparation of polymer-grafted graphene oxide can be an alternative way to produce polymer-based composites with remarkably improved performances. In this study, polystyrene was selected as the polymer matrix and furthermore the thermal and mechanical properties of polystyrene-grafted graphene oxide composites were characterized. |
