In the present study, a simple ecofriendly one step strategy has been developed through the lysozyme as protein mediated synthesis of silver nanoparticles in hydrogel networks. The as synthesized silver nanoparticles present in hydrogels were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-Visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction studies and scanning electron microscopy to confirm the formation, crystallinity, and morphological properties. Transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering studies gave an average size of silver nanoparticles around 28 nm. Compared to hydrogel silver nanocomposite with sodium borohydride reduction, the lysozyme encapsulated hydrogel silver nanocomposite exhibited enhanced antibacterial activity towards both gram positive and gram negative bactericides. The results indicates these new type of hydrogels can be potentially applied for wound dressing applications. |
