In a coal to liquid (CTL) process, coals used to be converted into liquid fuels should experience combustion procedure. The combustion characteristics of bituminous coal which has widely used in power generation and gasification processes is well summarized. However, low-grade coal which has higher moisture content is recently to be popularized, so there is not enough database for the combustion characteristics of low-grade coal. In this study, combustion characteristics of 3 sub-bituminous coals (KPU, MSJ, LG) and 2 bituminous coals (BG, WH) were investigated to prepare basic kinetic database to be used in design and operation. To gather combustion behaviors of samples, a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA, SETARAM Setsys) was used in the temperature range of 400-900℃. Kinetic models for coal combustion are prepared by using shrinking core model (SCM), volumetric reaction model (VRM), and modified volumetric model (MVRM). |
