Polymer electrolytes have been known as promising solid electrolytes because of their safety and processability. However, due to their low ionic conductivity and low mechanical strength, it is hard to realize high-performance Li-based batteries with these electrolytes. To address the issues, here an ionogel and a Li+ modulating layer are presented. The ionogel, which is synthesized by incorporating ionic liquid into a dry polymer matrix, shows improved ionic conductivity. The Li+ modulating layer is introduced to bypass low mechanical strength of the ionogel and prevent internal short-circuit induced by Li dendrites penetration. As a result, the assembled batteries including the ionogel and the Li+ modulating layer demonstrate enhanced rate capability and capacity retention, which are key factors in realizing high power density and high energy density solid-state Li metal batteries. |
