This study evaluated the effects of various electrochemical oxidation conditions on the surface properties of carbon fibers (CFs) and their interfacial shear strengths (IFSS) with epoxy and polypropylene resins. The surface morphology and properties of CFs before and after electrochemical oxidation were monitored by SEM, FT-IR, XPS, and contact angle. The IFSS of CF/epoxy and CF/PP was evaluated by a micro-bond method. As a result, the electrochemical oxidation accelerated the formation of additional oxygen functional groups on the CF surface, resulting in enhancing the interfacial adhesion between the CF and resins. |
