There have been many reports on the photo-reactivity of the reactive liquid crystals which can be classified as reactive mesogens with a flexible chain between the rigid core and the photo curable reactive functional group either acrylate or methacrylate by utilizing the photo-DSC. However, we found the difficulties on the evaluation of the photo-reactivity of the more rigid reactive mesogens such as [1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl diacrylate and [1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl bis(2-methylacrylate) that have no flexible chain. In our study, we use the organic solvent as a matrix in order to provide the role of flexible chain. We will present our effort and the result of the photo-reactivity of the variety of rigid reactive mesogens at room temperature. |
