Cellulose is cheap, biodegradable, renewable. Also, it is the most abundant natural polymer in the world. And it has been utilized for many applications including the immobilization of proteins, antibodies, coatings, artificial artery and organs as well as the formation of cellulose composites with synthetic polymers and biopolymers. In this study, cellulose was blended with polypropylene(PP)/poly(lactic acid)(PLA) in a twin-screw extruder. Polypropylene-g-maleic anhydride (PP-g-MAH) was used as the reactive compatibilizer to induce miscibility in the blend. And, cellulose was modified by alkylation. Mechanical and thermal properties of the PP/PLA/modified cellulose blend were characterized by using DSC, TGA and UTM. |
