Biofouling known as unwanted protein adsorption, platelet adhesion on materials surfaces has resulted in healthy problems in implantable medical device fields. Zwitterionic materials were reported to dramatically resist biofilm formation. In addition, fluorinated polymers were known to have antifouling and antimicrobial effects. Herein, we designed novel zwitterionic and fluorinated polyurethanes (ZFPU) additives to confer non-fouling and –thrombotic synergistic effects and blended these with polyvinyl chloride (PVC). 1H NMR and FT IR analyses characterized the successful synthesis of ZFPU additives. We investigated the protein adsorption, platelet adhesion and water contact angle test of additives-blended PVC films. Our results show that the ZFPUs to PVC significantly lowered protein adsorption and platelet adhesion. |
