A New Green-Emitting Phenothiazine Derivative and Its Electroluminescence Characteristics |

Recently, various π-conjugated donor-acceptor molecules which can trap both charge carriers and generate excitons have been widely studied. In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization of a novel organic fluorophore, 3,7-(benzimidazol-2-yl)-10-methylphenothiazine (BBMP) containing the electron-donating phenothiazine core and the electron-accepting benzimidazole substituent. BBMP has a high fluorescence quantum yield (Фf = 0.91) in solution state and a large Stokes shift (approximately ~120 nm) between absorption and emission, preventing the self-absorption of the emitted light in the EL device. The non-doped devices with a standard configuration of [ITO/α-NPB (40 nm)/ BBMP (30 nm)/ TPBI (30 nm)/Alq3 (10 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (120 nm)] showed a luminous efficiency of 8.7 cd/A and an external quantum efficiency of 2.1 % with the CIE 1931 chromaticity coordinates of (0.21, 0.52) at 100 mA/cm2. |
