Fabrication of Alcohol-induced Silk Fibroin Hydrogel as a Caffeine Delivery Matrix |

Silk fibroin (SF) is a water-insoluble and fibrous protein from Bombyx mori silk worm. Due to its biocompatibility, SF has been investigated as a natural protein material that can be applied to biotechnological and biomedical fields. Therefore, we prepared SF hydrogel by a alcohol-indued gelation of SF. Caffeine is widely used recently to control the obesity. It has been known to reduce the size of adipocytes due to its dehydration effect and lipolytic activity on fatty cells. We loaded caffeine into SF aqueous solution and prepared the hydrogel. Caffeine loading into SF hydrogel was examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The release profile of caffeine from the SF hydrogel was investigated. |
