Expanded graphite were prepared from graphite flakes by expansion using KMnO4 as a strong oxidizing agent at various impregnation time. The impregnation time was found to influence the interlayer spacing of expanded graphites (EGs) and hydrogen storage. The EGs had higher interlayer spacing (up to 3.51Å) according to increase of impregnation time, however, it was decreased again after 9 h. The textural properties of the samples depend strongly on their oxidizing parameters, particularly the impregnation time. The EGs samples showed hydrogen storage capacities of up to 1.78 wt.% at 100 bar and 298 K. The textural properties were determined by X-ray diffraction patterns and scanning electron microscopy and the gas adsorption-desorption method were performed to examination of hydrogen storage capacity. |
